The nearest shop is the Co-op, in Daliburgh, which is three miles north of Boisdale House. Supply lorries come in every day and you can buy all basics here. There is also a post office, Doctor’s surgery (South Uist Medical 01878 700758) a fish and chip shop and a petrol station. A little further on in Lochboisdale, there is a butcher, Macauley’s petrol station and car wash, a dentist, a hardware store, the Tourist Office and ferry terminal. The Lochboisdale Hotel is just above the ferry terminal for meals and drinks. Further south, Eriskay has a good general store and post office in the village. Going north, on the northern end of the causeway to Benbecula is a large Co-op, and near the airport is Maclennans supermarket which is superb for fresh fruit and vegetables and all the ingredients you can’t find elsewhere. Macdonald’s hardware store sells everything from a single nail to lawnmowers and MacGillivray’s near the airport is good for gifts, postcards, new and second hand books and some clothes.
